Police Report: October 21 – 27

The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.

Fraud

Location: 2700 Block of Augustine Drive

Between 1600 and 1730 hours, an unknown male suspect opened the victim’s purse and stole a wallet.

The suspect accumulated over $8,998 in purchases at stores in Santa Clara and San Jose. The suspect remains at large.

Petty Theft

Location: 1900 Block of El Camino Real

A victim came to the Police Building to report a laptop being stolen.

On 10/21/18 at approximately 1030 hours, a victim was at a restaurant on the 1900 block of El Camino Real. The victim left a laptop on the table. Upon the victim’s return, the laptop was missing. The suspect remains at large.

Commercial Burglary

Location: 1700 Block of Laurelwood Road

An officer was dispatched to a storage facility on the 1700 block of Laurelwood Road on the report of a burglary.

The victim’s storage unit was burglarized between 10/18/18 and 10/19/18 by two male and two female suspects.  The suspects entered and stole numerous items belonging to the victim. The stolen property is valued at approximately $15,030. The suspects remain at large.

Theft from a Vehicle

Location: 2000 Block of Pruneridge Avenue

An officer was dispatched to the 2000 block of Pruneridge Avenue on the report of a theft from a vehicle.

A victim parked and locked the vehicle at approximately 1649 hours. An unknown suspect(s) broke the rear passenger window and stole a purse containing credit cards, gift cards, cosmetic products and cash. The total loss was approximately $3,367.53.

The unknown suspect(s) then went to four locations in San Jose and made purchases with the victim’s credit cards. The suspect(s) charged a total of $1,310.96. The suspect(s) remain at large.

Traffic Fatality

Location: Great America Parkway and Bunker Hill Lane

On Thursday, October 25, 2018, at approximately 5:21 p.m., a private commuter bus turning southbound from Bunker Hill Lane onto Great America Parkway struck a bicyclist. The bicyclist was traveling in the designated bike lane. The result of the impact left the bicyclist with life-threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.

Traffic cameras at the intersection were recording at the moment of impact and clearly show the bus failing to yield the right of way to the bicyclist.

At this time, the bicyclist is only being identified as a male, 49 years old, and a resident of Morgan Hill.

Petty Theft

Location: 3000 Block of Miles Drive

An officer was dispatched to the 3000 block of Miles Drive on the report of a prior package theft.

Video surveillance shows an unknown male suspect steal a package from the victim’s residence. The items stolen are valued at $239.76.

The suspect remains at large.

Sex Registrant

Location: Bassett Street and Third Street

An officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on Third Street near Bassett Street after observing a male bicyclist without forward or rear facing lights.

A Records check revealed the subject is a sex registrant, out of compliance. A subsequent search of his person yielded burglary tools. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.
