Police Report

The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.

Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all of the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all of the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.

Resisting Arrest

Location: El Camino Real and McCormick Drive
Officers responded to the area of El Camino Real and McCormick Drive on the report of suspicious persons possibly breaking into vehicles in the shopping center parking lot. The officers spotted two subjects, one male and one female, who matched the description provided by the reporting party.

The female subject exhibited symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance. A Records check showed no wants or criminal history based on the name and date of birth she provided however the photograph in the system did not match that of the subject. A mobile fingerprint device confirmed the subject’s true identity. A subsequent Records check revealed she had two warrants for her arrest. She was found to be concealing drug paraphernalia on her person. She was transported to the temporary holding facility for processing before being transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Meanwhile, the male subject also appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. During the contact with the officer he became extremely agitated, aggressive and engaged in a struggle with the officer. Officers gained control of the subject and placed him under arrest. He was transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Vehicle Theft

Location: 2200 Block of Los Padres Boulevard
The reporting party witnessed a vehicle occupied by several suspicious persons lurking in the dark and tampering with vehicles. Upon officer arrival, the occupants collided with a parked vehicle and fled on foot.

The juvenile driver got stuck in her seat belt and stumbled out of the moving vehicle and into the arriving officer. She admitted to stealing the vehicle and claimed no knowledge of her counterparts. A Records check revealed the juvenile had two prior arrests for unlawful taking/driving of a vehicle.

Officers located two male juveniles nearby. Both subjects had warrants for their arrest. All three suspects were arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall.

Residential Burglary

Location: 3500 Block of El Camino Real
An officer was dispatched to a hotel on the 3500 block of El Camino Real to investigate a case of a stolen vehicle. The suspect unlawfully entered a hotel room by prying open the frontward facing window, entered the room and took a laptop, jewelry, sunglasses, tools, etc., and the victim’s car keys. The suspect stole the vehicle. The suspect is at large.

Petty Theft

Location: 2600 Block of El Camino Real
An unidentified suspect walked out of a store on the 2600 block of El Camino Real with two bottles of allergy medication without paying for the items. The suspect is unknown and outstanding.

Drug Arrest

Location: 3900 Block of Rivermark Plaza
An officer was driving through the parking lot on the 3900 block of Rivermark Plaza when a male suspect was observed exiting Safeway carrying a black handheld basket belonging to the store. He climbed in the passenger side of a vehicle and the female driver started to drive away. Unsure if the suspect was avoiding paying for bags or if some other situation had occurred, the officer decided to make contact with the occupants of the vehicle by initiating a traffic enforcement stop.

Upon contact, the officer asked the male suspect if he had paid for the items. He responded, “No.” He provided the officer with his brother’s name, but eventually offered his true identity when the officer asked the Records Unit to send him a driver’s license photo of the suspect. The male suspect was on searchable probation and admitted possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

A Records check of the female suspect revealed she was on active county probation, had a suspended driver license with good service and failed to have vehicle insurance. The charges against the female suspect qualified for an arrest however they did not meet the criteria for taking her into custody. She was issued a citation and released at the scene.

Suspended License

Location: Maria Street and Newhall Street
An officer was traveling on Newhall Street when a vehicle near Maria Street was observed with expired registration. The officer initiated a vehicle code enforcement stop.

The male suspect identified himself and informed the officer that he had paid the vehicle’s registration fees but the vehicle has not passed a smog test yet. The officer removed the 2017 green “registration” sticker which ended up being a green piece of paper that was not reflective, did not have a sticky backside and was stuck on with clear tape.

A Records check revealed the suspect had a suspended driver’s license. The suspect was issued a criminal citation for false registration tabs, expired registration and driving with a suspended driver’s license before being released at the scene.

Armed Robbery

Location: 4700 Block of Great America Parkway

Officers responded to California’s Great America theme park on the report of an armed robbery. According to the reporting party, a group of eight juveniles were sitting on the grass traffic island located near the main entrance to the theme park parking lot. Three male suspects approached the suspect and robbed them of clothing, jewelry and shoes at knife-point. Victim #1 refused and was punched and kicked by the suspects. During the incident, the victim lost consciousness.

Upon SCPD arrival, Great America Security personnel had a group of seven juveniles detained. The juveniles were friends of the victim and had chased the suspects to a black sedan before they fled the scene.

Meanwhile, a juvenile victim was dazed, confused and complaining of pain. The Santa Clara Fire Department provided initial assistance before he was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. This case is under investigation.
