Pursuit
Location: 3500 Block of Homestead Road
An officer detained two individuals, one male and one female, in a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot of a closed business on the 3500 block of Homestead Road. The vehicle was parked in a No Parking zone. As the officer approached the vehicle, the smell of alcohol and marijuana emanated from the vehicle. The officer saw two open containers of alcohol and made contact with the male driver. The male suspect originally provided a false name.
A Records check revealed the female passenger was on probation. The officer directed the female out of the car to conduct a probation search, however the male suspect quickly reinserted the keys into the ignition and drove away from the area at a high rate of speed with the female suspect still inside. The officer had to jump backwards to avoid being pinned between the suspect vehicle and a parked vehicle.
The suspect vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and was not following traffic control signals. Records updated the officer with the correct name of the male suspect and informed officers of his warrants for arrest. The suspect crashed into a power pole at Lafayette Street and Homestead Road before fleeing on foot. He was apprehended and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.
Officers later learned the male suspect dropped the female suspect off near Lochinvar Avenue and Bing Drive. The female suspect remains at large.
The Santa Clara Fire Department and Silicon Valley Power responded to the scene to tend to the downed, live power lines and to replace the power pole. Approximately 400 households were impacted as a result of the power outage.
