Police Report

The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.

Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all of the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all of the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the comprehensive list of arrests made.

Driving Under the Influence

Location: 400 Block of Greenwood

Public Safety Dispatchers deployed an officer to the 400 block of Greenwood Drive on the report of a vehicle collision. Upon arrival, officers observed two heavily damaged vehicles, one of which was a parked car.

The male suspect driver displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication. The suspect did not satisfactorily perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. As a result, he was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Vehicle Theft

Location:  2200 Block of Monroe Street

An officer was observing a residence on the 2200 block of Monroe Street for two individuals on searchable probation/parole. The officer conducted a license plate check of the vehicle in the driveway of the residence. The return on the license plate confirmed the vehicle was stolen out of San Jose.

Officers were able to quickly contain the residence and five (5) subjects came out, reluctantly, after being hailed out. Officers located the subject hiding on the roof of the residence with the help of a Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety K-9. He was taken into custody.

The male driver of the vehicle fled the scene and a search for him was unsuccessful. The female passenger, later discovered to have an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, was taken in to custody.

Commercial Burglary

Location: 1400 Block of Monroe Street

An officer responded to a call of a prior commercial burglary on the 1400 block of Monroe Street. The suspect(s) entered an electrical room located in the basement of the construction site and stole two stand-up style construction lights, valued at approximately $700. The suspect(s) remain at large.

Grand Theft

Location: 5200 Block of Stevens Creek Boulevard

A grand theft was discovered to a storage shed in an alley on the 5200 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard. The unknown suspect(s) removed a lock to the shed and stole assorted painting equipment, estimated at $5,000.  The suspect(s) remain at large.

Theft

Location:  2200 Block of El Camino Real

An officer observed a vehicle driving erratically and with expired registration tabs on the 2200 block of El Camino Real. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop and contacted the vehicle’s occupants. Both the driver and passenger reported not having identification with them and consented to a search of their vehicle.

Both subjects were positively identified by Santa Clara County Jail booking photos. A Records check revealed the male’s driver’s license status to be suspended/revoked and he was on parole. He displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

The subjects were in possession of stolen mail, checks, credit cards, pre-paid access cards/gift cards, drug paraphernalia, an electronic thermometer, a shaved automobile key and approximately $6,500 in cash. The electronic thermometer was confirmed stolen from Saint Louise Regional Hospital, valued at approximately $360. At least two confirmed victims had been located;  additional victims are anticipated as this investigation continues.

Both subjects were arrested and booked at the Santa Clara County Jail.

Burglary – Attempted

Location:  2300 Block of Warburton Avenue

The victim was in a residence on the 2300 block of Warburton Avenue when two male suspects rang the doorbell and knocked on the door. The victim looked out the front window to witness the suspects entering a side gate. The victim went into a bedroom and saw the suspects remove a screen, open a window and start to enter the home. The victim yelled at the suspects, who fled to a waiting vehicle.

The victim obtained a vehicle description, including the license plate number. The vehicle was reported stolen in a residential burglary in the City of Los Gatos. The two suspects have not been identified as of this report.

Fraud

Location:  3200 Block of Mission College Boulevard

On 10/26/17, a 70-year old victim was shopping on the 3200 block of Mission College Boulevard. The victim was approached by a female requesting a ride to San Jose, with her male friend. The victim reluctantly agreed.

During the drive to San Jose, the male received a phone call regarding him winning the lottery. The male needed to deposit $20,000 into an account in order to receive the $1,000,000 prize. The male showed the victim $10,000 in cash and asked her for the balance with the promise of receiving $100,000 share of the lottery prize.

The victim drove the suspects to a residence and retrieved $9,000. The victim then drove the suspects to a bank to deposit the money. The suspects fled the scene.

This incident was reported to SCPD on 10/27/17 when the victim told a family member about the incident. Officers responded to the Mercado Center to review security camera footage. Screenshots of the suspects have been distributed to law enforcement agencies throughout Santa Clara County.

Sex Registrant

Location: Central Park Library, 2635 Homestead Road

An officer responded to the Central Park Library, located at 2635 Homestead Road, on the report of a suspicious person.

The male subject had previously been recorded on the Library’s surveillance system for stealing cash from the café tip jar on 10/23/17 and 10/24/17 and exiting the facility.

The subject had left the Library on foot prior to police arrival. A subject matching the physical and clothing description was stopped at the corner of Kiely Boulevard and Homestead Road. The subject did not possess any identification and provided officers with two false names and birthdates before providing his real name. A Records check revealed two confirmed warrants from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the Santa Clara Superior Court. Records also informed the officer that the subject is a sex registrant out of compliance since 3/3/17. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.
