Police Report

The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.

 Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all of the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all of the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.

Fraud

Location: 3000 Block of Kaiser Drive

An unknown suspect listed a car for sale on Facebook. The victim contacted the suspect and agreed to meet on the 3000 block of Kaiser Drive. Following a test drive, the suspect and victim agreed on a sale price of $10,000. The title, keys and money were exchanged. The suspect told the victim a spare set of keys were in the apartment. The suspect walked away and did not return.

The victim went to the Department of Motor Vehicles to transfer the title and learned it was invalid. The vehicle is not reported stolen at the time of this report, and the suspect has not been identified.

Suspicious Circumstances 

Location:  200 Block of Bret Hart Court

A resident on the 200 block of Bret Hart Court was inside their home when the garage door opened. The resident looked in the garage and saw a male suspect standing in the driveway. The suspect immediately ran to a “small red car” which fled on to Sutter Avenue. The victim was able to determine the suspect took the garage door opener from the unlocked vehicle in the garage. The suspect remains at large.

NOTE:  The circumstances of this incident is similar to a series of burglaries in the area earlier this year (Case Number #17-2691 and 17-2461).

Drug Arrest 

Location:  De La Cruz Boulevard and Seaboard Avenue

An officer made contact with two male subjects in a parking lot on De La Cruz Boulevard near Seaboard Avenue. The subjects told the officer his vehicle broke down and he was waiting for a ride.

A Records check of suspect #1 revealed a no bail Post Release Community Supervision warrant. He was placed under arrest.

A Records check of suspect #2 revealed the suspect was on searchable probation and was also on Post Release Community Supervision. The officer informed the subject of his intent to search the suspect and he walked away, disobeying all subsequent commands from the officer. The officer attempted to take the subject into custody however he resisted arrest and struggle ensued. Once in custody, a search of his person yielded a bag containing a large quantity of narcotics, $5,300 in counterfeit $100 bills, three notebooks referencing selling drugs and $226 in cash.

Both suspects were transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Warrant Arrest – Felony

Location:  3000 Block of Mission College Boulevard

The Special Enforcement Team was able to locate the second, and final, suspect from a burglary that took place on 9/14/17 (Case Number #17-7977). The male suspect had outstanding felony warrants and was on Post Release Community Supervision.

Contact was made with the suspect in the Mission College parking lot. The suspect was in his vehicle when Detectives positioned their vehicle behind that of the suspect. The suspect put the vehicle in reverse and hit the unmarked patrol vehicle before surrendering.

A search of his person yielded an arrow key (for use to open apartment style mailboxes), a bag containing a controlled substance and 49 $1 bills. A search of his vehicle yielded a live 12-gauge shotgun round, a fixed blade knife, blank keys, burglary tools, used hypodermic syringes, a Volkswagen key and a flare gun loaded with a shotgun round.

The suspect was also under the influence of a central nervous system stimulant. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Residential Burglary

Location: Monroe Street and Scott Boulevard

Public Safety Dispatchers received a report of an interrupted burglary on the 2000 block of Cabrillo Avenue. According to the homeowner, the suspect and his dog were chased out of the residence until losing sight of the suspect.

While en route, an officer located a male suspect that matched the description provided by the reporting party accompanied by a pitbull. The suspect was detained until the victim could be brought to Monroe Street and Scott Boulevard to positively identify him. A search of the suspect revealed a laptop computer that had previously been taken in a separate burglary on 9/21/17 (SCPD Case #17-52159).

The suspect was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Residential Burglary

Location: 1200 Block of Chapel Drive

An unknown suspect(s) entered the victim’s residence through an unlocked window and stole the victim’s property, including electronics, jewelry, keys and two firearms with a total value of $10,500. The suspect(s) remain at large.

Vehicle Theft 

Location:  Winchester Boulevard and Tisch Way

Officers on routine patrol conducted a registration check on a vehicle. The return revealed the vehicle was reported stolen from a rental car agency in Monterey. The officers initiated a high-risk felony car stop when the vehicle pulled into a gas station on Winchester Boulevard.

The vehicle’s driver and passenger were removed from the vehicle without further incident. A search of the vehicle yielded a substantial quantity of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a can of pepper spray. Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Residential Burglary                                               Location: 1700 Block of Monroe Street

An unknown suspect(s) pried open a garage door on the 1700 block of Monroe Street and stole the victim’s motorcycle. The motorcycle was later located abandoned at a nearby apartment complex. The suspect(s) remain at large.

Drug Arrest 

Location:  2500 Block of El Camino Real

Officers were dispatched to a motel on the 2500 block of El Camino Real on the report of a suspicious person harassing motel occupants. When contacted by officers, two suspects (one male and one female) made claims about trying to locate a subject who owed them money.

A Records check on the male suspect revealed he was on searchable probation. A search of his motel room yielded a controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. Both parties were arrested.
