Police Report

The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.

 Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all of the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all of the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.

Driving Under the Influence

Location: 3500 Block of Homestead Road

A male driver was contacted by police following a solo vehicle collision on the 3500 block of Homestead Road. The vehicle had crashed into the front of the strip mall.

Upon contact, the officer observed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication from the suspect. The suspect failed to perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests as demonstrated. The suspect was arrested for driving under the influence and was transported to the temporary holding facility.

Theft

Location:  600 Block of Enright Avenue

A victim parked a vehicle on the 600 block of Enright Avenue. Video surveillance captured a male suspect enter the unlocked vehicle and steal an employer key card at approximately 0430 hours. The suspect remains at large.

 NOTE:            The previous patrol shift, an officer responded to a similar complaint. The victim of that incident declined documentation as nothing was taken.

Brandishing

Location:  3300 Block of Cabrillo Avenue

Patrol units responded to the 3300 block of Cabrillo Avenue on the report of two victims being threatened with an electronic control weapon (ECW) by two male suspects.

Upon police arrival, the officers located two suspects with a similar description. The suspects were handcuffed and the weapon was located. The weapon was confirmed to be a stun gun. The suspects were later identified as juveniles. The officer arrested the suspect with the weapon and released him to his parents with a Juvenile Crime Report.

Weapons

Location:  800 Block of Duane Avenue

Public Safety Dispatchers received a call regarding a man in a van with a rifle at a storage facility on the 800 block of Duane Avenue. The reporting party stated the male suspect was pointing the rifle in the direction of southbound highway 101.

Officers located the vehicle in question and the corresponding suspect. The suspect complied with officer’s orders and was detained in handcuffs. The weapon was confirmed to be a BB gun rifle. The suspect was released at the scene.

Robbery

Location:  Lafayette Street and Reed Street

Public Safety Dispatchers received a report of a strong arm robbery that had occurred on the pedestrian bridge at the corner of Reed Street and Lafayette Street. The male suspect was observed running away from the area as officers arrived. The suspect complied with the officer’s directions and was taken into custody without further incident.

The take in the robbery was $1.00 and a used handkerchief. The suspect was transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Driving Under the Influence

Location: Woodland Avenue and Tamarack Avenue, San Jose

An officer was conducting routine patrol when a female driver waved her hands and flashed the vehicle’s high beams to get the officer’s attention. This individual had just witnessed a male suspect physically extract a male victim from the driver’s seat and flee with the vehicle.

The officer located the suspect vehicle and conducted a vehicle enforcement stop in the area of Woodland Avenue and Tamarack Avenue in San Jose. The suspect displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication. The suspect unsuccessfully completed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was arrested. The vehicle was towed for safe keeping.

The suspect’s story differed from that of the reporting party, and the original driver was never located.

NOTE:            Santa Clara University students generated 12 calls for service. SCPD’s Team 200 proactively initiated contact with students and addressed calls for service generated by residents.

NOTE:            California’s Great America 10th annual Halloween Haunt began this evening. SCPD was on-hand to mitigate any issues among attendees.

Weapons

Location:  Pomeroy Avenue and Humboldt Avenue

An officer conducted a license plate check of a vehicle in the area of Benton Street and Pomeroy Avenue. The Chevy Blazer’s license plate came back to a Jeep. As a result, the officer initiated a felony traffic stop.

The male suspect quickly pulled over, opened the driver’s side door, stepped out of the vehicle and was argumentative. After several verbal commands from the officer, the suspect complied with the officer’s request. He was detained in handcuffs while additional officers arrived on scene.

A Records check revealed the suspect was on searchable probation, his driver’s license was suspended, the vehicle registration was expired and he had four outstanding warrants for his arrest. A search of his person yielded drug paraphernalia. A search of his vehicle yielded an unloaded rifle with ten unspent rifle rounds. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.
