Police Report

The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.

Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all of the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all of the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.

Warrant Arrest – Felony

Location: 1100 Block of Walsh Avenue
Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Walsh Avenue to investigate a disturbance. Officers located two subjects behind a store. A Records check revealed both subjects had outstanding warrants. Officers also learned the vehicle the subjects were associated with was reported stolen. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded personal identifying information for approximately fifteen individuals who were the victims of identity theft. The subjects were booked at the Santa Clara County Jail.

Traffic Accident with Property Damage

Location: 3100 Block of Warburton Avenue
Officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of Warburton Avenue regarding a suspicious male who was knocking on the doors of homes. Upon arrival, officers noticed a trail of debris from Calabazas Boulevard to Warburton Avenue. The debris led officers to a vehicle completely submerged in a swimming pool. The driver had fallen asleep at the wheel causing the accident.

The Santa Clara Fire Department arrived on scene and confirmed there were no additional passengers were in the vehicle.

NOTE: At the request of residents, the City Council approved a resolution at its February 21, 2017, meeting establishing a 1-hour parking zone from 12:00am-6:00am on El Capitan Avenue, Sheraton Drive, Staats Way and Alberta Court. Residents felt the resolution will help prevent non-neighborhood residents from using these streets as overflow parking, improve safety and reduce litter in the neighborhood.

SCPD issued 19 citations in this area today as a result of this new ordinance.

Embezzlement

Location: 400 Nelo Street
A male suspect was terminated from a business on the 400 block of Nelo Street in December 2016. The reporting party contacted police because the suspect retained possession of at least one credit card that was issued during his employment. The reporting party further informed the responding officer that the suspect used the credit card for 35 transactions, totaling $2,179.40, for fuel and car washes from service stations authorized to accept the card. The suspect remains at large.

Missing Person

Location: 5400 Block of Great America Parkway
Robert (Bobby) O’Leary was reported missing on 4/12/17. Bobby’s vehicle and dog were left on 4/11/17 at approximately 2355 hours at 5453 Great America Parkway. He does not have a phone or wallet. Based on the location of Bobby’s vehicle, it was believed he may be in the marsh area north of Alviso.

Information has been posted on the City of Santa Clara’s website and via SCPD’s social media outlets. A TrakFlyer was distributed to law enforcement agencies in Santa Clara, Alameda, Santa Cruz and San Mateo Counties. Local hospitals have been checked and advised of the missing person. Public safety dispatchers have not received any calls regarding an individual matching his description. The Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Center, adjacent hillside and vegetation have been checked. SCPD’s bicycle unit has checked the creek trails on the northside of our city and in the Alviso Marina County Park. This search was coordinated with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team K-9 as well as the San Jose Police Department’s helicopter. Some news outlets have covered the story.

Bobby’s family and friends have also coordinated searches of their own. At the time of this Police Blotters distribution, Bobby’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Public assistance is requested. A photo of Bobby is attached. He is 21 years old, 6’ 1” tall and approximately 220 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. If located, please contact the Santa Clara Police Department immediately at (408)615-5580.

Fraud

Location: 800 Block of Maryann Drive
The female victim responded to an online advertisement for an apartment for rent. The female suspect sent the victim a photo of a California Driver’s License to “prove” her identity and requested a deposit be sent to the account number provided in the amount of $3,850. After sending the money, the suspect stopped communication with the victim. The suspect remains at large.

An officer responded to a report of a traffic collision on Great America Parkway near Highway 101. The California Highway Patrol handled the investigation.

Warrant Arrest

Location: El Camino Real and Calabazas Boulevard
An officer made contact with a male subject on the corner of El Camino Real and Calabazas Boulevard. A Records check revealed the subject had a warrant for $25,000. The subject was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Petty Theft

Location: 1600 Block of Coleman Avenue
An officer was dispatched to Costco on the 1600 block of Coleman Avenue on the report of a shoplifting investigation involving an uncooperative suspect. Upon arrival, the officer learned the male suspect selected and concealed approximately $255 worth of merchandise. The suspect exited the business without paying and was contacted by Costco Loss Prevention personnel. The suspect was uncooperative, refused to provide identification, fled on foot and became enraged before being restrained by multiple Costco employees until SCPD arrival. The suspect was arrested.
