Police Report

The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.

Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all of the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all of the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.

Warrant Arrest – Felony Location: Newhall Street at Shady Glen Avenue
An officer was patrolling the area of Newhall Street and Shady Glen Avenue when a pedestrian was observed walking on the sidewalk drinking a beer. This is a violation of the Municipal Code so the officer initiated an enforcement stop and the male subject identified himself.

A Records check revealed the subject had an outstanding no-bail bench warrant. A search of his person yielded drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Warrant Arrest – Felony Location: Police Building, 601 El Camino Real
An officer was dispatched to the Police Building parking lot for a report of a prior battery. The reporting party, a male subject, had contacted Public Safety Dispatchers multiple times from different locations but declined to provide any details about the situation. The responding officer requested a Records check which yielded multiple warrants. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Tuesday, August 8, 2017
Murder / Suicide Location: 2200 Block of Homestead Road
On August 8, 2017, at approximately 1204, SCPD responded to an unknown situation on the 2200 block of Homestead Road.

Officers observed a body through a window and after making entry discovered a second body. An elderly male and female was located deceased inside. There are no outstanding suspects and there is no danger to the public. It appears to be a murder/ suicide.

The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office has taken possession of the deceased. As soon as the deceased are identified and next of kin are notified, additional information will be released. Meanwhile, the Detective Bureau is thoroughly investigating the situation. More information will be released as it becomes available.

Driving Under the Influence Location: 2000 Block of Scott Boulevard
An officer responded to a call of a rollover crash on Scott Boulevard and Monroe Street. Upon contact with the female driver, the officer observed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication. The suspect admitted to consuming alcohol and performed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Based on the officer’s observations, the suspect’s responses to the questions, the results of the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and the Preliminary Alcohol Screening test, she was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Traffic Accident – Fatal Location: El Camino Real and Benton Street
On August 10, 2017 at approximately 6:20pm, Santa Clara Police Officers responded to the bus stop near El Camino Real and Railroad Avenue on a report of a traffic accident. Upon arrival officers learned that a VTA bus was stopped at the bus stop on El Camino Real near Railroad Avenue.

The victim exited the bus at the middle doors and walked several feet away on the sidewalk. As the bus was pulling away from the curb, the victim began pursuing the bus. The victim stumbled and was struck by the bus.

The victim sustained major injuries and was treated at the scene by Santa Clara Fire Department personnel. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Drugs Sale Location: 5200 Block of Stevens Creek Boulevard
On 08/11/2017 at approximately 1812 hours, the crimes of possession of drug paraphernalia, being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine for sale and possession of narcotics without a prescription occurred on the 5200 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard.
A Records check revealed the male suspect had two misdemeanor warrants totaling $30,000 from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office and Morgan Hill Police Department. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Saturday, August 12, 2017
False Imprisonment Location: 4900 Block of Plaza Escuela

An officer was dispatched to a residential burglary in progress on the 4900 block of Plaza Escuela. The reporting party, armed with a handgun, hung up the phone with Public Safety Dispatchers and failed to answer several return phone calls made to the residence.

The male suspect was seen near the front door of the residence and was given verbal commands, which he did not follow. The suspect went inside the residence. Using a vehicle’s public address system, officers attempted to get the occupants of the residence to step outside. A short time later, the reporting party opened the front door, however the suspect slammed the door closed preventing the reporting party from exiting the residence.

At 0630 hours, officers heard yelling and screaming from inside the residence. The Sergeant on scene authorized emergency entry into the residence. The suspect continued to resist, but was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail. Both the suspect and reporting party were heavily intoxicated.

The Fire Department rendered aid to the reporting party before being transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
