Police Nab Four Convenience Store Robbery Suspects

Police arrested four San Jose men for a string of armed robberies, the latest of which occurred in Santa Clara.

Blay Tacha Mellizo, 22, Juan Hernandez Estrada, 18 and Andrey Guedez Melo,19, stand accused of robbing three area convenience stores. Police also arrested a 17-year-old San Jose resident for the same crime.

The latest robbery occurred March 14 on the 400 block of South Kiely Boulevard in Santa Clara. Police believe the suspects are also responsible for two other robberies, one in Union City the same day and a third, also in Santa Clara, two days earlier.

Three of the suspects allegedly entered the store just after 5 a.m. March 12. Two of them brandished what appeared to be guns, but police later discovered they were replicas of a handgun and a rifle. One of the suspects pistol-whipped the employee.

Medical professionals treated the victim’s wounds onsite.

The two “armed” suspects then grabbed the employee, forcing him to open the cash register. The men then allegedly absconded with “several hundred dollars,” according to a San Jose Police Department (SJPD) press release.

SJPD investigated, with the Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) notifying the SJPD that its officers had found the suspects’ vehicle unoccupied. During the execution of a warrant at a “related location,” police discovered the replicas and arrested the suspects.

Police booked the three adult suspects into the Santa Clara County Main Jail and the juvenile suspect into the Santa Clara Juvenile Hall, all for armed robbery.
