Officer Involved Shooting in Santa Clara

During a DUI traffic stop on the evening of Saturday, January 14, a Santa Clara Police Officer encountered an allegedly uncooperative driver, a 42-year-old male Santa Clara resident.

According to a press release by SCPD Lt. Phil Cook, as the driver became uncooperative, the officer called for assistance. The suspect was allegedly reaching for a revolver, at which point the officer shot and killed the suspect.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, the 2400 block of Karen Drive, near Homestead and San Tomas. The incident occurred at 9:47 p.m.

The name of the suspect is being withheld until his identity is confirmed by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office. The involved officer is a two-year veteran. His name is being withheld at this time.

A loaded handgun was recovered at the scene. No one else was in the car with the suspect at the time of the stop.
