Now Open: Prime 109 in Santa Clara

Thick, bone-in steaks are in store for beef aficionados as the highly anticipated Prime 109 Steak and Libation House opens its doors in Santa Clara this week.

With its signature 48 ounce prime rib, 24 ounce porterhouse, 22 ounce rib eye, 20 ounce New York strip and 12 ounce filet, Prime 109 fills the space once occupied by a Bennigan’s restaurant along Great America Parkway. Each steak, cut from one of the highest qualities of beef on the market, is prepared on the bone to enhance flavor, and served alongside a super-greens blend salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions and a six cheese blend.

In addition to specialty steaks, Prime 109 offers a full range of seafood, chicken and vegetarian options and paella with Spanish red shrimp, crab, scallops, chicken and Andouille sausage stewed in a tomato and vegetable broth and served over Basmati rice.

Prime 109 also features 16 signature cocktails and tableside Bloody Mary bar where a mixologist will utilize an array of add-ins create libations blended to a guest’s specifications.

Throughout the week, the restaurant will draw in customers with its daily happy hour from 2 to 6 p.m., Monday luxury top shelf promotion, half off wine on Wednesdays after 2 p.m. and Sunday brunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday night entertainment will consist of live, instrumental music.

The upscale concept is the brainchild of executive chef Andy Revella and hotelier and restaurateur Narender Taneja.

Taneja, who owns the Prime 109 restaurant in Fremont, a casual diner restaurant franchise outside of California and five hotels with a sixth opening soon, said the concept has been well-received in the East Bay and is eager to share Revella’s menu with Santa Clara.

“We already have more than 7,000 likes on Facebook,” he said. “If you look at our website, it says everything; it explains everything; it shows everything. There are pictures of the menu. We don’t hide anything. And then, of course, we are open to group events and I’m getting so much corporate response for that already.”

The restaurant itself is designed to create a cozy, inviting and warm atmosphere. Gold, mahogany and copper colors are seen throughout and items were brought in from across the globe to create a luxurious and welcoming space that caters to guests’ needs.

“I always say every guest is a god to me,” said Taneja. “Every guest needs to be treated well and needs to be served the best food and drinks … [People] like to have a good fine dining place. Some place where they can share some good moments with their partners or their friends and family; food has to be good as well.”

Taneja said the front of house staff is trained to engage customers and servers are expected to make guests feel appreciated.

“Every little service matters to [guests],” he said. “Sometimes I go and sit at the bar and say hello to the people sitting there. I’ve found that people expect high end and we have to give them that kind of service … Experience the service; experience the food; experience the ambiance. That is a key to our business.”
