North Santa Clara Fire Station Changes

Santa Clara Fire Station 8, located at 2400 Agnew Rd., reopened this week after being closed for nine months for renovations. Soon after, Fire Station 10, currently located at 5111 Stars & Stripes Dr., will close by March 1 while preparations begin for replacing and relocating the station.

These changes are coming along because of the Related Santa Clara development, located at 5155 Stars and Stripes Dr., that’s scheduled to break ground in North Santa Clara this spring. Once the development’s built out, Santa Clara in the North will have new fire stations that will serve the developing area.

Related Companies recently completed a $2.2 million renovation and expansion of Santa Clara Fire Station 8 in preparation for Related Santa Clara Phase One. The fire station now has a new dormitory wing, all-gender bathrooms, fitness room, workshop and turnout storage room.

Related Companies is also funding approximately $15 million for the construction and relocation of a new Fire Station 10. This Fire Station currently houses Engine 90 with three crew members. During the Fire Station’s closure, Engine 90 will respond from Fire Station 8 until the newly relocated fire station is built during Related Santa Clara Phase Two — there are seven phases of development planned. A schedule for construction has not been set yet.

Santa Clara Fire Department staff completed a response time analysis and concluded that they will be able to maintain their response time goals of less than six minutes for apparatus and less than eight minutes for paramedics to arrive on scene for all residential and commercial uses in the northside of Santa Clara. As with all fire-related emergencies, the resources of the Santa Clara Fire Department are dispatched to incident locations utilizing GPS and the closest available unit for the incident type.
