July 14 marked the beginning of the formal nomination period for the upcoming Nov. 4 General Municipal Election. This was the first day that individuals intending to run for the office of Santa Clara Mayor or City Council in this election cycle could obtain nomination papers.
Council Seat 2 and Council Seat 5 are up for election, along with the position of Mayor. Candidates interested in filing nomination papers should make an appointment with the City Clerk’s Office at 408-615-2220 or clerk@santaclaraca.gov.
Potential candidates will receive a comprehensive packet of information that outlines the nomination and election process, financial disclosure requirements, the voluntary campaign expenditure limit program, and the City of Santa Clara’s guidelines on ethical campaigning.
Nomination documents must be completed and returned by Aug. 8. If an incumbent eligible to seek re-election chooses not to file by the deadline, there will be an extension of the nomination period until Aug. 13 for that Seat.
For more information, contact the City Clerk’s Office at 408-615-2220, email clerk@santaclaraca.gov, or visit www.santaclaraca.gov.
