The National PTA Reflections Program is one of the largest student arts recognition programs in the country. Each year, hundreds of thousands of students participate throughout the country. Students may submit works in any of six arts areas: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and visual arts. This year, over 162 entries for the theme “Diversity Means” were received from schools (K-12) in the local area. Of the 162, only 59 of those went on to the PTA’s district level competition.
Millikin Elmentary school was excited to learn that California State PTA judges selected Millikin 3rd grader, Smrithi Suresh’s Reflections Program entry in the Dance Choreography (Intermediate) category for the Award of Excellence, the highest honor given by the State PTA. Her entry went on to the National PTA for consideration where she won as well. Smrithi has been recognized at the Annual California State PTA Convention, as well as the Arts Recognition Luncheon where she gave a speech about her Reflections experience.
In addition, she will attend a May 31 event hosted by the Office of Education of Santa Clara County honoring the 6th District’s award recipients.
