Milestones – Do You Remember? – Opinion

Not so long ago, when you were a child, you learned (sometimes the hard way) touching a hot stove got you burned.

Many of us did that at least once. It was a tough way to learn. However, it was a lasting lesson.

Rarely, but on occasion, and usually by mistake, we grab a hot pan and get burned again.

This learning experience doesn’t need to be repeated once you have been burned to the point it is seared in your brain. You just don’t make the same mistake and get burned again.

Unless you do.

Santa Clara voters are being asked to forget Mayor Lisa Gillmor’s last council majority and focus on her current crop of candidates.

Mayor Lisa Gillmor is HOT and wants to light your fire. She has prepared the kindling and has a bankroll of money from Related Companies, the Santa Clara POA  and is ready to turn up the heat.

Santa Clara voters are being asked to believe this time, she won’t burn you.

Madam Mayor, you burned us once and we are not excited to get burned again.

It wasn’t that long ago when Santa Clara voters were persuaded to give Mayor Lisa Gillmor a city council majority.

“Ouch!”

It didn’t take long before Santa Clara’s multi-million budget surplus was squandered. Imagine an $800,000 pay package for a marginal City Manager. Salary increases for our police, that ranks them in the top three highest-paid police forces in California.

Consider the millions of dollars Gillmor wasted on a special election (Measure C) to override the court order to form six districts in Santa Clara.

Think about another million lost by not answering attorney Robert Rubin’s three-day offer to settle the voting rights lawsuit.

You have heard of checks and balances? During Gillmor’s council majority reign, there were lots of checks written and Santa Clara’s balances were drained.

Consider the three incumbents who have been proactive, frugal and productive. Re-elect the following:

Kevin Park has been solid for residents and applied common sense to the issues, proving he is a capable and talented council member.

Anthony Becker is bright, and had backbone, tenacity and resilience to run against Lisa Gillmor for mayor. He lost by only 700 votes. Now, he is being politically persecuted because he was a threat to Gillmor’s 28 years on council.

Suds Jain is the guiding father of our current council. His applied brilliance, good ideas and leadership are a credit to him and to the Santa Clara community.

In District 1, Santa Clarans should support either Harbir Bhatia or Albert Gonzalez.

Santa Clara voters do remember!
