The City Council voted to place Measures A and B on the Santa Clara ballot this March after the independent Charter Review Committee recommended that the Council do so. Santa Clara is the LAST City in the State to have an elected Chief of Police and Measure B would change the City Charter, making the Police Chief another position appointed by the City Manager like the Fire Chief and all the other City employees. The Chief would finally have concrete goals and annual performance reviews. A rigorous hiring process that is not limited to the 10 officers who live in the City would ensure that Santa gets a highly trained and experienced Police Chief. Don’t be fooled; the Police Officers Association will pick the next Police Chief and most likely there will be only one candidate, leaving voters without the choice the were promised. Vote YES on A and B.
