My name is Nat and I am a father to a first grader at Scott Lane Elementary School. Superintendent Stella Kemp, in her March 10th response to board member questions, stated that she that plans to take away four teachers from Scott Lane, a Title 1 school where 77% of the school population receives free/reduced lunch and 36% of the students are at grade level in English. So, in essence, she’s increasing the class size in a school whose students are economically disadvantaged and underperforming in English. It seems to me that Superintendent Kemp is balancing SCUSD’s budget on the backs of brown and economically disadvantaged students by taking the path of least resistance. Well, I am here to say that I am here to resist. I hope she considers doing the ethically responsible thing and offering Scott Lane the resources it needs to educate its children.
