The Endorsement Game
When I ran for school board, I was a little surprised by the endorsement game among politicians and quickly learned that individual endorsements often (but not always) had very little to do with the qualifications of the individual, voting history, or political views. Sometimes, it was just about who asked first. However, endorsements by organizations are another matter. These are based on lengthy questionnaires, interviews, and sometimes an investigation in voting history/past statements. These are done by a panel or sometimes voted on by a group.
In the school board race for Santa Clara Unified School District, we are starting to see the results from these organizations.
