New bills for Alzheimer’s – Letter to the Editor

I just got back from Washington, DC where I joined 500 Alzheimer’s advocates from across the country in meetings with Congress on behalf of the 6 million Americans suffering from Alzheimer’s. I asked Ro Khanna to cosponsor two new bills: the NAPA Reauthorization Act and the Alzheimer’s Accountability & Investment Act. These bills will renew keystone bills that were signed into law in 2011, and are about to expire in 2025. NAPA gave the United States a national strategic plan to address the rapidly escalating Alzheimer’s crisis.  It fundamentally changed the way the nation addressed Alzheimer’s, focusing on promoting rapid research on Alzheimer’s, and improving delivery of clinical care and services with people living with Alzheimer’s and their families. Alzheimer’s is not decreasing and in fact by 2050 the numbers are projected to double. We need a national plan to ensure we continue to address Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.
