Many of Trump’s evangelical supporters recite the Lord’s Prayer. Donald Trump recently desecrated that prayer. The former President shared a bunch of sentiments on his social media platform that he likely couldn’t have gotten away with posting himself. These included calls for trials or jailing of lawmakers and the Special Counsel. (8-28-24, Los Angeles Times) Encouraging other peoples’ hasty or misguided legal judgments can get them into hot water. Jesus, of course, famously prayed, “Lead us not into temptation.” A better citizen might have said those public servants are innocent until proven guilty. However, they haven’t even been charged with anything. Trump is encouraging his fellow citizens to skip all the goody-goody stuff put out by the American justice system and get themselves into trouble like all those he got into trouble on January 6th. That is not very good Christian behavior.
