Sharon Noguchi’s fine but distressing article today (SJ Mercury News) re: the mess that is happening in a fine community, displaying unadulterated power struggles in the SC Unified School District, reinforces the importance of an informed local electorate which is ultimately responsible for placing board members. There undoubtedly is a lot more to the story but it appears that a few of the well-intentioned board members do not accept what appears in the official description on the website: “In order to manage the day-to-day administration of the District, the Board of Education appoints the Superintendent of Schools.” The board members should stick to their prescribed jobs and allow the professionals to do theirs. What is especially disturbing is the public eruption of emotionalism and finger-pointing that says more about egos and less about the welfare of the Santa Clara school population.
