Letter From Pete MacKay

After reading Ronald Johnstone’s letter (5/7-5/13 issue) on plastic bags I failed to see an explanation of how banning them would be economically detrimental. Banning them is reducing pollution in cities all over the west coast – the same way Styrofoam cup bans worked in the past – and despite public outcry people are simply learning to remember to bring reusable bags with them. It’s not difficult. While he’s “driving” around (paying attention to traffic I assume) he’s clearly missing the pollution I see walking and biking around our city, and I welcome him to visit my house near the Safeway on Kiely/Homestead to see the bag full of plastic bags I pick up on nearly a daily basis walking my dogs.

Change is good…
