I have read about plans to demolish the Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Club and the BMX track and replace them with a retail/office/housing complex that is several times larger than Santana Row. Here we go again! Apparently, traffic gridlock and the demise of two well-loved, well-used places of recreation are far less important than the money that another massive retail complex will generate. Families and individuals who value such places should protest the decision to demolish the BMX tack and the golf course. I urge the City Council to reflect on the consequences of marginalizing recreation in favor of retail and office development. As more and more commercial developments are built, we will have fewer and fewer places to pursue outdoor recreation.
