There is an old story told among European philosophers of a man going into convulsions lamenting the death of a parent whom he hated for years, and the reason for his bizarre actions to writhe in sorrow over the passing of a person he hated was explained that it was the end of the object of so much hate that the man lamented. Sadly, for some in this community, the stadium has become the object of an irrational hatred they have for our city leadership. Letters demanding the recall of even the stadium skeptics on the council demonstrate a consuming fit of hatred that exceeds Orwellian descriptions of the “Two Minutes of Hate,” the propagandists had achieved. The conclusion any observer would have is that the naysayers fear the day the stadium is erected, for they will have exhausted their feelings of fear.
