In 2015, Iran agreed to lower its stockpiles of uranium, a critical component of nuclear weapons. This year, however, President Trump unilaterally backed out of the 2015 agreement and reinstated sanctions against Iran. The result is that millions of Iranian citizens are once again suffering from a mix of skyrocketing living costs amidst a falling economy. In retaliation, Iran said it would resume production of enriched uranium, thus escalating tensions between the United States and the oil giant.
Trump’s unwillingness to compromise not only drove a wedge between America and Iran, but also other world powers like China, Germany, and France.
In this era of nuclear proliferation and rising tensions, politicians must consider the entire international community. This administration needs to demonstrate a willingness to cooperate with Iran in order to reach peaceful solutions.
