As the pandemic ends and people start to engage in more social activities maskless on the streets instead of virtually at home, it may seem like our lives are going back on track. However, for those families separated by the Pacific Ocean, troubles remain.
Although more domestic flights are opening up, it is still quite difficult to travel internationally, especially to Asian countries. My family and I planned on visiting our relatives in China, but the skyrocketing tickets and the multiple stops we had to endure when going back home held us back.
Some reasons why airplane tickets are so expensive nowadays include the increasing demand for travel, the severely understaffed industry, and the rising jet fuel prices. However, tickets should not be the reason to set people apart from their families and friends; only the reunions can end the pandemic and create a more loving world.
