When I heard that the Triton Free Friday events were largely sponsored by the 49ers, I was glad to see that some money from the incoming football team was going towards local culture and not just towards large political donations. I was willing to overlook the traffic on Saturday nights around Levi’s Stadium while enjoying events on Friday nights at the Triton Museum of Art. However, I cannot feel good about attending the Triton Free Friday events if the primary corporate sponsor insists on essentially taking over the local Youth Soccer Park. If parking cars on grass fields near the stadium is such a good idea, why aren’t the 49ers opening their own training camp for parking as well? If the 49ers are truly practicing the art of reducing traffic on game days, then why not seek further solutions with public transit rather than kicking away at youth soccer?
