Mayor Gillmor and the City Council at the Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 12th proclaimed June 2018 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month in the City of Santa Clara.
Santa Clara is a diverse community, with its citizens representing many different values, religions, and lifestyles. All citizens need to be treated fairly, respectfully, and according to their legal rights. However, it is not the Santa Clara City Council’s charge to endorse nor proscribe LGBTQ lifestyles and values.
The Council, as representatives of the entire Santa Clara community, should remain neutral on such issues.
The rainbow flag is flying high in front of City Hall, and yet a cross representing the historicity of Santa Clara was removed from a public park by this same mayor and council. This is discriminatory
We urge the council to rescind this proclamation and remove the rainbow flag.
