Kaiser “Seeds of Hope” Event Returns for 12th Year

Nourishing your heart, empowering your brain, and transforming your life is possible. Those topics and others will be explored at the annual Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara/San Jose Cancer Survivors Day Conference and Celebration on Sunday, June 9. It is a day of learning, wellness, and celebrating life after a diagnosis of cancer.

This year’s 12th annual Seeds of Hope will take place at the Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center. Kaiser Permanente physicians and staff will present workshops on heart health, changing mindset to help people commit to maintaining healthy lifestyle choices, metabolic health, and cancer-related memory loss.

Anita T.C. Lee, MD, a Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara radiologist, says the workshops will show “what is good for the heart, is good for the brain, is good for preventing cancer, its recurrence and progression.”

Lee says the hospital’s green and leafy courtyard will have more than 50 educational booths and activities where visitors can talk to cancer experts; a kids’ fun zone with tips for how to minimize cancer risk starting at an early age; and an opportunity to donate hair to make wigs for children who have lost their hair due to radiation and chemotherapy. There will be many other hands-on activities, including learning how to make your own toxin-free cleaning and personal-care products.

“We believe there’s no better place to receive cancer treatment than Kaiser Permanente,” said Pilar Ivanov, MD, a Kaiser Permanente San Jose oncologist. “Our fully integrated care system allows us to ensure that our patients receive the most advanced, comprehensive care to take on this disease. We want to empower our patients to live a healthier life after cancer diagnosis.”

This year’s free workshops include:

  • “Heart Health, Stress and Cancer,” presented by cardiologist Seema Pursnani, MD
  • “Fog be Gone: Treating Cancer-Related Memory Loss,” presented by Geriatric medicine physician Punam Patel, MD
  • “Changing Mindset to Change Behavior,” presented by lifestyle medicine providers Lisa Morgan, MPH, and Ann Kodani, MD
  • “The Mighty Mitochondria—Building a Foundation for Health and Longevity,” presented by radiation oncology dietitian Anzonette Pittet, RD, CSO

“Seeds of Hope” will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on  Sunday, June 9 at the Kaiser Permanente  Santa Clara Medical Center, 710 Lawrence Expressway. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required: tinyurl.com/seedsofhope2024
