Help Name the Agnews Schools

From Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, the Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) is surveying the community for school name ideas. The District is asking community members to submit as many names as they would like for the Ad Hoc Committee and School Board’s consideration — submit your ideas here: Name Our Schools Online Form.

In preparation for opening the Agnews schools, SCSUD has begun the process to name all three of the elementary, middle and high schools. The School Board will select a name for each school after seeking input from the community.

A board-approved Ad Hoc Committee with student, parent, community, teacher, classified staff, and school and district administrator representatives will review, research and consider name options during the months of October and November. In late October, the committee will poll the community on the top names being considered before making their final recommendation to the School Board in November. The poll will be posted on SCUSD’s website. The decided upon school names will be announced in December.

“We also invite you to attend an important, informational meeting with Superintendent Stella Kemp, Elementary School Principal Shehnaz Wadhwania, and Middle School Principal Dawnel Sonntag to learn more about the status of our Agnews campus,” said SCUSD in a press release. “Please feel free to attend any one of these sessions for a full project update and to share your feedback.”

The meetings are planned for:

  • Sept. 18, 6 – 7 p.m. at Mayne Elementary School, Multipurpose Room
  • Sept. 19, 6 – 7 p.m. at Montague Elementary School, Multipurpose Room
  • Sept. 25, 6 – 7 p.m. at Hughes Elementary School, Multipurpose Room

The community can stay up to date with timelines, enrollment and project updates on the Agnews webpages. Additionally, visit the District’s website after Dec. 13 to view the announcement of the newly named schools.
