On March 25 California’s Great America (www.greatamerica.com) opens its 40th season, with some notable firsts for Santa Clara’s landmark theme park.
Opening day will debut Mass Effect: New Earth 4D Holographic Journey, which lets gamers physically enter the sci-fi role-playing videogame, Mass Effect. This immersive experience takes riders on a galactic adventure with 3D visuals and 4D – physical –special effects including motion seating and high tech sound.
This year’s second new attraction is WinterFest, opening Nov. 25 and running Dec. 19 through 23, and Dec. 26 through 30. WinterFest will transform the park into a holiday delight; with ice skating next to the iconic Carousel Columbia, light displays, live shows, rides and attractions, and what Great America says is one of the Bay Area’s tallest Christmas trees. Admission will be free for 2016 Gold and Platinum pass holders.
“WinterFest will be one of Northern California’s most spectacular winter events, delivering a unique experience where friends and families can create memories,” said Great America general manager and VP Raul Rehnborg in a news release. “Mass Effect and WinterFest are the first of many exciting additions planned for Great America in the coming years.”
Great America’s 2016 season also includes a 40th anniversary celebration on March 25, Memorial Day weekend fireworks on May 29, an iHeart concert on June 4, and Fiesta Hispana on Aug. 7.
