Game of the Week

With a strong start in the first half, the Celtic Warriors of St. Lawrence Academy defeated the San Francisco Christian Trojans 8-1 on Oct. 13. The Warriors increase their overall record to 6-2 and continue to go undefeated in conference, winning all five of their conference games so far.

St. Lawrence’s first half strength started with two barely missed shots by junior Huynh Phan. While keeping most of the possession of the ball, junior Steven Souza drove the first goal into the net on an assist from sophomore Shawn Rovetto.

The Warriors would continue to put pressure on the Trojans goalkeeper; freshman Alec Uyematsu had two shots on goal, while Souza’s was just high and Rovetto’s hit the left post narrowly missing the net.

St. Lawrence’s second goal came again from Souza, who got a shot off right past the goalkeeper. Minutes later, sophomore Luis Flores drilled a shot just below the crossbar bringing the Warriors ahead 3-0.

Before the end of the first half, senior Thomas Kang netted two balls. The first kicked just past San Francisco Christian’s goalkeeper, despite his first block. The second came from a drive down the right side of the field, just over the head of San Francisco Christian’s goalkeeper.

Down by five going into the second half, the Trojans weren’t going down without a fight. Gaining more possession of the ball than in the previous half, San Francisco Christian was able to take a few more shots, but only managed to get one past senior goalkeeper Philip Notaro.

Senior Jayden Potter added to the Warriors lead with a shot just past the diving goalkeeper on an assist from Kang. St. Lawrence would continue to drive towards the net, scoring twice more on eight attempts.

The Warriors continued conference play on Oct. 15 defeating Kehillah Jewish School 2-1. They face the Wolves of Jewish Community School of the Way on Oct. 20 and finish their season facing Kehillah Jewish School again on Oct. 21. Both games will be played at Santa Clara Youth Soccer Park at 3:30 p.m.
