Fleming’s: A Marriage of Steak and Wine

The Santa Clara Square location of Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar opened its doors on Monday.

On a preview night prior to the restaurant’s opening, the executive chief said that it is a constant debate about what is more important when it comes to a meal: the food or the wine?

In this battle, there is the wine corner. The Fleming’s 100 is an expertly curated list of 100 wines served in the restaurant at any time. There is an array of both domestic and international wines in a rainbow from sparking whites to deep, rich reds. The whites will accompany their seafood—like the chilled seafood tower—and the reds will of course pair perfectly with the meats.

The cocktail selection will not be overlooked. The spacious bar features signature, handcrafted cocktails, including the Blueberry Lemon Drop with a sugared rim.

Wine is also worked into the décor of the restaurant—a wall of floating wine bottles in the bar area welcomes patrons. And behind the bar is a glass wine room that houses over 1,400 bottles.

In the food corner, their sourdough parmesan bread, champagne infused brie cheese spread and smoked cheddar cheese spread are all made in house—and that’s just a starter. Many of the elements that arrive on your plate are also made in house.

The New Wedge Salad features spicy bacon and blue cheese dressing, while the Fleming’s Salad had a summer twist with dried cranberries and walnuts. Their hand-cut USDA Prime and Certified Angus beef steaks are stars of the experience and are supported by a range of complementary sides to share, including chipotle cheddar mac and cheese, sautéed mushrooms, crispy brussel sprouts and more. These complement the nutty and bold dry-aged prime ribeye as well as the melt-in-your-mouth filet mignon.

With an assortment of desserts from crème brûlèe, to walnut turtle cake, to New York cheese cake topped with chantilly cream to close out the meal, you’re left feeling satisfied and grateful that Fleming’s competition between food and wine brought you such well curated meal.

Fleming’s was going for a more casual steakhouse experience with this new location. The restaurant sports lighter wood as opposed to the darker wood featured in most steakhouses. There are also large windows—to the outside world and into the inner world of the kitchen—as well as a patio and brighter lights.

This Fleming’s location is serving a new menu not yet featured at their other locations. Also, this location will be serving weekday lunch.

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar is now opened at Santa Clara Square—2762 Augustine Dr., Suite 110, Santa Clara—with valet parking.
