On Jan.13 at approximately 7:43 p.m., officers from the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety responded to the intersection of Fair Oaks Avenue and South Eden Avenue after receiving reports of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers discovered an injured adult male lying on the roadway. The patient was provided with emergency medical care and transported to a local hospital. Despite efforts by first responders to save the patient, he succumbed to the injuries at the hospital.
The case is still under investigation. The driver of the vehicle which struck the patient remained at the scene and has been cooperative with investigators. At this time, the driver is not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The vehicle was traveling in the northbound lanes of Fair Oaks Avenue when it struck the pedestrian.
The identity of the patient will be released by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office once it has been verified and his family has been notified. The collision is being investigated by the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).
