Fatal Collision Involving a Pedestrian at El Camino Real, Helen Avenue

On Jan. 7 at approximately 6:18 a.m., officers from the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety responded to the intersection of El Camino Real and Helen Avenue after receiving reports of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers discovered an injured adult male lying on the roadway. The patient was provided with emergency medical care and transported to a local hospital. Despite efforts by first responders to save the patient, he succumbed to the injuries.

The case is still under investigation. The driver of the vehicle which struck the patient, remained at the scene and has been cooperative with investigators. At this time, it is not believed drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.

The identity of the patient will be released by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office once it has been verified and his family has been notified. The collision is being investigated by the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).
