David Tuttle, Santa Clara Unified School District’s (SCUSD) District Farmer, lead a talk with attendees about the vision of the SCUSD’s farm and the types of vegetables served at the first Farm Dinner on Friday, Sept. 21.
The Farm, located at 1055 Dunford Way in Sunnyvale, was the venue for the Farm Dinner. The sold-out dinner served as a fundraiser for the SCUSD student farm tours. Items on the dinner menu included farm fresh produce along with locally sourced proteins. The ingredients on the menu from the farm included pickled vegetable crudité’, zucchini napoleon, roasted vegetable puree and chimichurri sauce with a brown apple tart for dessert.
The Farm has been in operation under SCUSD since August 2017 and has harvested over 5,000 pounds of produce including rainbow carrots, fava beans, red romaine lettuce, cabbage, kale, snap peas, radishes, blood oranges, nectarines, apricots, eggplant, squash, tomatoes, basil and cilantro. Produce from the farm is grown organically, picked fresh and served to district students.
