Sares Regis Group of Northern California (SRGNC) and Hunter Partners are pleased to announce impressive leasing activity on both the commercial and residential sides at Cityline, the vast new transit-oriented, mixed-use destination in downtown Sunnyvale.
Four new retail leases totaling 7,831 square feet has pushed commercial space occupancy past 80 percent. Meanwhile, on the residential front, The Martin, a 12-story luxury apartment tower, is already 75 percent leased since welcoming renters in June 2024.
The Econic Company brokered deals with four new retail destinations, including Sev Laser, a laser hair removal service, as well as three restaurants: Senro Sushi, Sana’s House Café and Shake Shack. Each signed 10-year leases and plan to open in Q4 2025.
“Cityline is now bustling with activity and the breadth of excellent dining options continues to grow,“ said Curtis Leigh, principal and partner for Hunter Partners. “Planning for restaurants in a mixed-use development has taken significant coordination efforts since they have higher infrastructure needs. As we’ve seen more demand for restaurant space, we’ve made some additional infrastructure updates to allow for more restaurant spaces.”
The three new eateries join the six Cityline restaurants and cafes already open to the active, pedestrian-oriented, mixed-use district which celebrated its official grand opening last fall. When complete, Cityline will include 1,100 new apartments, one million square feet of office space, a large public plaza called Redwood Square, and 500,000 square feet of new retail and entertainment options.
At the Martin, 354 of the 479 apartment units have been rented in just over 6 months. The available homes include Studios, 1-Bedroom, 2-Bedroom and 3-Bedrooms and start at $3,410 a month.
“Cityline has transformed Sunnyvale’s skyline, and its residential offerings including The Flats, Flats West and The Martin have already added more than one thousand new residents to downtown area,” said Jeff Smith, director of development/SVP for SRGNC. “Sunnyvale’s re-imagined downtown is proving to be a popular draw for residents, workers and visitors, alike.”
Cityline’s development team, officially STC Venture, LLC, is a joint venture between SRGNC and Hunter Partners, with SRGNC the primary residential developer, and Hunter Partners the primary commercial developer. Groundbreaking for Cityline’s Phase I kicked off in late 2016. Construction included 273 apartments and nearly 100,000 square feet of retail. That was followed by a 110,000-square-foot building anchored by Whole Foods Market and AMC Theaters, two retail uses that were priorities for the city. In early 2021, the third phase commenced as the Downtown Specific Plan (DSP) was approved, allowing 792 residential new units and 650,000 square feet of office space located above 182,000 square feet of ground floor retail on four parcels along Murphy and McKinley Avenues. Topping out in May 2023, the two seven-story office buildings and a 12-story luxury apartment tower, The Martin, are now complete and attracting new retailers, businesses, and residents.
Cityline’s Redwood Square, the city’s new gathering spot, has already hosted multiple events and is gearing up for the Cityline Art Adventure on Saturday, March 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., featuring art from Mark Handforth.
