Central Park Elementary, Santa Clara High Placed on Brief Shelter-in-Place

On Aug. 22, the Santa Clara County Specialized Enforcement Team (SCCSET) conducted a traffic stop in the City of Santa Clara which resulted in a foot chase. The Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) helped SCCSET locate and apprehend the suspect.

Due to the proximity of this incident and in an abundance of caution, SCDP requested Central Park Elementary and Santa Clara High Schools be put on “shelter-in-place” while officers searched for the suspect. The incident was resolved within about 10 minutes.

“School safety is always our highest priority,” said SCPD in a community message.

SCPD said they were in contact with staff at both schools during this incident and applaud their efforts to remain calm and follow the established shelter-in-place protocol while the matter was resolved.

“All school activity has resumed as normal though you may see increased police presence in the neighborhood while they conclude their investigation,” said SCPD.
