Carden Kids Help Families in Need

On Friday, November 18, the students of Carden Academy in Santa Clara came to school with canned cranberry sauce, instant mashed potatoes, stuffing mix, canned gravy, canned green beans, bags of cookies and apple juice.

The items, along with a frozen turkey, were packed into boxes and given to 50 needy families in the community. Thirty boxes were sent to Living Waters Women’s Group, a battered women’s shelter, and about 20 boxes were given to struggling members of First Presbyterian Church in Santa Clara. Leftover boxes were given to Second Harvest Food Bank, which has a storage unit on the Carden Academy campus.

“We work in conjunction with [First Presbyterian] and knew there was a need over there,” said Carden Academy Vice Principal Ellen Maguire.

Reverend Dennis Woodsmall, the pastor of the church, expressed his gratitude to the school. “We appreciate Carden being [on our site]…There are a lot of things we do jointly that are beneficial to the church and the community and we are grateful to have them let us be part of their food drive.”

Carden Academy is a non-religious private school serving preschoolers through eighth graders. Carden will be holding an open house on January 21 from noon to 3 p.m. For additional information visit http://cardenacademysv.com/.
