Santa Clara’s independent bookstore celebrated its first year in the City with a literary scavenger hunt, pajama story time, champagne, snacks and surprises.
Santa Clara resident Amy King attended with her husband, Nick and their twin 19-month-old twin daughters Evelyn and Aidan. The foursome arrived with two large birthday cards the girls colored to help celebrate the event.
“We’ve been coming here for awhile,” said King, adding that she is a strong supporter of independent bookstores. “We live down the street and we came for Halloween and various author signings. When I saw it on Facebook I thought that we could have them celebrate and show our appreciation. This is where we come for all of our books.”
Store Manager Cheenie Durham said she has loved being part of the Santa Clara community the past year.
“It has been wonderful,” she said. “We feel very loved here. I do feel appreciation and every day someone tells me how happy they are that there’s a bookstore here.”
Books, Inc. is at 2712 Augustine Dr. at Santa Clara Square. On Sat., Aug. 5 at 2 p.m., the store will hold its free Where’s Waldo? Party celebrating 30 years of searching for the beloved and bespectacled boy.
