Around Town: Coffee, Pastry and Mac Repair

As they say, what’s old is new. And this year’s new old thing among the coffee cognoscenti is “pour over” coffee made in a Chemex-style glass coffeepot.

At Bellano Coffee (www.facebook.com/BellanoCoffee) on Stevens Creek between Saratoga and Kiely, coffee connoisseurs can enjoy a scientifically, individually brewed cup of joe made from your choice of an extensive menu of specialty coffees. Bellano also offers a very reasonable weekend brunch made to order – crepes on Saturday and French toast on Sunday.

If you’re in the mood for more than coffee, stop by Paris Baguette on El Camino (www.parisbaguetteusa.com) – especially if you’re looking for something special and sweet for your Valentine. In fact, even if you’re not in the mood for a snack, you should visit just to look at the exquisite pastries and desserts. Part of Korean food services company SPC Group, Paris Baguette has been written up by the New York Times.

The menu features savory as well as sweet pastries, tempting sandwiches and wraps, and coffee and tea. And, Paris Baguette’s location at El Camino and Lawrence makes it the ideal spot to pick up a sandwich and coffee to tide you through the next marathon school board meeting.

New to Santa Clara but not to the South Bay, SJ Mac Repair (www.facebook.com/SJMacRepair/info) just opened on Harold, right off Stevens Creek. Apple-certified, the company offers repairs and upgrades for all Apple devices: Mac desk systems and laptops, iPhones, iPods, and iPads. Plus, diagnosing your problem is free.

Owner Mike Ziemer’s former San Jose operation enjoyed an enviable reputation for high quality, good prices, and stellar customer service. He’s a wealth of information about all things Macintosh (including where to find software for non-Intel machines) and can guide you to the best deal on a used or refurbished machine. And chances are, before you leave he’ll teach you about a Mac feature or two you never knew about.

Judging by the Yelp reviews just since he opened the Santa Clara shop in December, Ziemer’s off to a great start here. Be sure to call ahead, and he’ll greet you at the door.
