Air Force Academy Graduate Cecily C. Agu

Santa Clara resident Cecily C. Agu graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs, CO, on May 24. Cecily Agu is one of 979 newly commissioned Second Lieutenants in the class of 2017.

Agu received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Astronautical Engineering. As a cadet, she worked with the Academy’s Space Satellite Program, scheduled to launch the Falcon SAT-6 within six months.

Agu will be stationed at Los Angeles Air Force Base–the home of Air Force Space Command’s Space and Missile Systems Center–and will be a developmental engineer in the Launch Systems Enterprise Directorate.

She graduated from Archbishop Mitty High School, San Jose, in 2013 and attended Sutter Elementary School and Buchser Middle School in Santa Clara. She credits her parents, Santa Clara residents Cheryl and Joe Agu, with encouraging her interest in space.

An Air Force Academy education is valued at $416,000 (www.usafa.edu) and comes with the obligation to serve five years active and three years reserve duty.

“It was an incredible experience… It’s way more than getting a degree,” said Agu. “It’s being part of a system that not only protects the county but has an impact globally.”
