The Santa Clara City Library Foundation & Friends, Kaiser Permanente and Fresh Approach kicked off the new South Bay route for their mobile farmer’s market, Freshest Cargo, on August 26 at the Central Park Library. Freshest Cargo handed out fresh white nectarines to those present, who all took a bite as the ribbon was cut to officially kick off the new route.

There were a number of speakers, including Tracy Wingrove, Executive Director of the Santa Clara City Library Foundation & Friends; Ellen Paul, Head of Adult Services for the Santa Clara City Library; Dr Susan Smarr, the physician in chief for Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara; and more.

The Santa Clara City Library welcomed the new truck providing fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms, sold at reasonable prices to consumers in the South Bay. “Libraries aren’t just books, books, books, it’s about the betterment of the individual and the community through learning and learning happens through many different avenues,” said Paul. The library also has a seed library, and they teach people to grow their own food, cook that healthy food and save the seeds so that they can do it all again next year.
