49ers Picnic On The Field

The 49ers Foundation hosted their second annual Picnic On The Field on Saturday, June 1. As with last year, participants enjoyed home field advantage as the picnic took place on the field used by their football team of choice, the 49ers. The picnic had the same feel as the inaugural year — it’s still a family-friendly event featuring something for everyone.

More than 2,000 people came out as the clouds parted for what seemed like an excellent way to kick off Spring — albeit a few weeks late.  Families came from near and as far away as Kerman sporting their favorite 49ers gear.

The picnic was the scene of an NFL 100th anniversary celebration by the 49ers, Huddle for 100. The goal of Huddle for 100 is to get 1 million people to give 100 minutes of their time to community service for a total of 100 million volunteer minutes.

“The goal is to fill 1,000 backpacks with school supplies for underserved youth in the community,” said Stacy McCorkle, 49ers Community Relations Director.

The backpacks will go to Operation Homefront, a Back-to-School Brigade to support military kids in need, City Team’s Mobile Pantry, Bayview Hunters Point Mobilization for Adolescent Growth in our Communities (BMagic), and 49ers Alum Dennis Brown will host a backpack giveaway for underserved youth at a church in San Francisco later in the summer.

“As part of the NFL’s 100, teams will compete against each other as they urge their fans to do service for others,” said McCorkle. “There are over 2,000 people here today supporting the 49ers Foundation’s programs that impact 100,000 kids in the Bay Area.  The Foundation gave back over $6 million to the community last year.”

All proceeds from the picnic will be used to support the mission of the 49ers Foundation to harness football to educate and empower Bay Area youth. For more information on the 49ers Foundation, visit their website: www.49ers.com/community/foundation.
