49ers Help Build Bikes for Children

The San Francisco 49ers and Optum recently teamed up with Turning Wheels for Kids to build 80 bikes for foster youth from Unity Care. The two-part event began with a bike build in the morning and culminated that afternoon with a surprise delivery of the bikes to 50 young people at an Optum Bike Safety and Health Fair at Levi’s Stadium on Nov. 10.

Employees and volunteers from Optum joined members of the 49ers, Turning Wheels for Kids and Optum Pro Cycling to help assemble the bikes at the SAP Performance Facility. The bikes were then delivered to youth during an interactive non-contact football camp and health and wellness fair at Levi’s Stadium.

The San Francisco 49ers Foundation is the non-profit community funding extension of the San Francisco 49ers. Now in its 22nd year, the 49ers Foundation supports development programs for underserved youth that keep them “Safe, on track, and in school.” Since 1992, the foundation has donated over $26 million to support non-profits, including $3.3 million in 2013.
