The George F. Haines International Swim Center in Santa Clara, was the place to be for swimmers and their fans for the weekend of June 3 – 5 as the 2015-16 Arena Pro Swim Series returned to Northern California. Swimmers from around the world came to Santa Clara to compete. Pictured here is Ryan Cochrane with Island Swimming Canada, who used the event as a tune up to the 2016 Olympics in Rio by finishing with a 15:09 in the Men’s 1500-meter Freestyle, defeating second place place finisher Jack McLoughlin by nearly 10 seconds, but still off from the world record time of 14:31.02. In other races, 12-time Olympic Medalist, Natalie Coughlin, competed in the Women’s 100-meter Freestyle, but finished in seventh place with Emma McKeon finishing nearly two seconds faster with a time of 53.03 seconds (compared to a world record time of 52.07 seconds). In the Men’s 100-meter Freestyle, Markus Thormeyer, with the University of British Columbia Dolphins, won with a time of 49.95 seconds, well off from the world record of 46.91seconds, defeating Cal’s Trent Williams, who posted a time of 50.84 seconds. Also, in the 100-meter Freestyle, James Magnussen, with the Ravenswood Swimming Club posted a time of 48.99, off from the world record of 46.91 seconds, defeating Kyle Chalmers’ 49.16-second time.
