2011 SANTA CLARA HISTORIC HOME TOUR

The tradition of the Santa Clara Historic Home Tour, which began 33 years ago, will proudly continue this year. The event will be celebrated Friday evening, December 2nd from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday, December 3rd from noon to 5 p.m. The Historic Preservation Society of Santa Clara sponsors the tour with the assistance of the Old Quad Residents’ Association for the benefit of historic preservation projects and non-profit groups in Santa Clara.

This year’s tour will feature four private residences – the Oscar Eberhard House, a 1912 Period Revival Craftsman first owned by a member of the family that once operated the Eberhard Tannery factory in Santa Clara; the Luis G “George” Fatjo House, a Prairie School style home owned by a member of a prominent Spanish family in old Santa Clara; the Myers House, a Classic Box structure with Colonial Revival features; and the Hattie Mills House, a beautiful 1890s era Queen Anne Victorian with Colonial Revival detailing. The public building on this year’s tour will be the Harris-Lass House, an 1865 Italianate-style Victorian first owned by a Santa Clara capitalist named Henry Harris, passed on to his son Alfred, a Town Treasurer and banker in Santa Clara and then bought by sea captain Christian Lass in 1906. Each room in the house will be decorated to the theme, “Twas the Night Before Christmas…”. The Harris-Lass House, celebrating its 20th anniversary as a public museum, will also be the location for restrooms, refreshments and an opportunity drawing which will benefit the Santa Clara Arts & Historical Consortium.
