10-Year Anniversary Celebration

10-Year Anniversary Celebration10-Year Anniversary Celebration

Restaurants face a constant struggle of maintaining a quality customers demand, along with ever-increasing costs of doing business. Celebrating 10 years as a business is definitely a milestone. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, less than 35% of business survive 10 years, with 50% failing in the first five years. But that’s precisely what A Slice of New York (3443 Stevens Creek Blvd, San Jose) has done. During that time, they also opened a second location (1253 W. El Camino Real, Sunnyvale).

To mark the occasion, they had an official ribbon and pizza dough cutting. Santa Clara Mayor, Lisa Gillmor helped mark the occasion by representing the City of Santa Clara and presented a city-proclamation. Andrae Macapinlac from Senator Bob Wieckowski’s office presented a certificate of commendation signed by the Senator and Assemblymember Evan Low and to top that off, a local fan of the restaurant, fitness trainer and Cosplayer, SpideyFit came to the event. Special anniversary pricing was in effect all day at both locations – $2 for a slice of pizza, $10 for a small and $15 for a large pizza and a limited edition $20 t-shirt with all funds benefiting Guadalupe River Park Conservancy.

Wait, what? The Mayor of Santa Clara came to a ribbon cutting for a business with a street address of San Jose? Did her GPS run amok? Due to how the US Postal Service designates addresses, A Slice of New York is a Santa Clara-based business with a San Jose address.

After the ribbon cutting, A Slice of New York’s owner, Kirk Vartan, then had Gillmor take place in a pizza-dough cutting, which she handled with the expertise of a politician experienced in cutting through red-tape.
